The Art of Altering Vintage Clothing: Tips and Considerations
I've been getting into vintage fashion lately, but one thing that’s been frustrating is finding the perfect fit. A lot of older pieces have amazing craftsmanship but don’t quite match modern sizing. I recently found a 1950s wool blazer at a thrift shop, and while I love the fabric and details, the shoulders are too wide, and the sleeves are a bit short. I’m torn between altering it or keeping it as is. Has anyone had experience with tailoring vintage pieces? Is it worth the risk, or should I just wear it oversized?

Vintage clothing has such a unique appeal, but fit can be a challenge. I’ve altered a few thrifted jackets myself, and I’d say minor tweaks are usually worth it. Taking in the waist or adjusting sleeves can make a huge difference without compromising the original style. Just be careful with drastic changes, especially on delicate fabrics. If you really love the blazer, a good tailor can make it work while keeping that vintage charm!
